Gay
Arndt Bradshaw Ph.D., Ph.D. is Executive
Director and President of the Board of Directors
of The Kerulos Center. She holds doctorate degrees
in ecology and psychology, and has published, taught,
and lectured widely in these fields both in the U.S.
and internationally.
Her work focuses on trans-species psychology, the
theory and methods of animal psychological rehabilitation
and conservation. Her research expertise includes
the effects of violence on and trauma recovery of
long-lived species that include elephants, chimpanzees,
and parrots, and other species in captivity. She established
the new field of trans-species psychology upon which
the work and principles of The Kerulos Center are
based.
Debra Durham, PhD
Debra
Durham is Associate
Director of The Kerulos Center. She earned her
Ph.D. in Animal Behavior from the University of California
Davis. She has been working with animals for more
than 12 years in both research and applied work. Her
specialties include behavioral plasticity and how
individuals respond to change and stress. Durham began
studying primates in the wild in 1996 and directed
a long-term conservation research program with endangered
lemurs from 1999-2001. In addition to her prior research
that aimed to protect wild animals in the context
of conservation, Dr. Durham also worked on issues
of animal welfare. She has been particularly keen
to apply this approach to better understand the effects
of laboratory experimentation and possibilities for
supporting rehabilitation for survivors. Dr. Durham's
professional experience includes positions in the
public sector as well as the private sector working
in profit and not-for-profit organizations. Durham
also has experience with outreach, teaching and program
evaluation that are valuable in her role as a board
member.
Celeste Wiser, MD
Celeste
Wiser, M.D. is Board Certified in General Psychiatry,
specializing in trauma of children and adults. She
is currently at the University of California, Children's
Hospital, Department of Pediatrics. Previously, Celeste
was Chief of Professional Education, Napa State Hospital,
where she was responsible for Continuing Medical Education
activities, teaching seminars on Pain Management and
End-of-Life Care; coordinating psychiatry rotations
and seminars for medical students and residents; supervising
employees of the Professional Education department
and the Professional Library; training all clinical
staff (approximately 500 clinicians) in the implementation
of the new federally-mandated Recovery Model. In addition
to her medical work, she is active in global peace
initiatives and outreach.
Deanne Bell, MA
Ms.
Bell is a counselor with a background in business.
Before her counseling career she was a partner with
the investment bank, Pan Caribbean Merchant Bank and
an investment dealer with Prudential Stockbrokers
Jamaica Ltd. In the past, she taught sports psychology,
counseled at the University of Montana’s Counseling
and Psychological Services, supervised treatment managers
in diverse settings including children's care and
adoption programmes as well as individual clients
in her private practice. Her theoretical orientation
includes a positive psychology approach with an ongoing
exploration into depth psychology. Her career spans
stock banking, public service at the board level,
entrepreneurship, performance enhancement and counseling.
She is completing a Ph.D. in Depth Psychology at Pacifica
Graduate Institute, and engaged in ecological and
social justice efforts such as Jamaicans
for Justice, of which she is an originating member.
